Woodworking
There's "love" in the word "amateur."

I created this stool in red oak for a friend with physical disabilities. I wanted it to be sturdy enough to support her when she reached to high shelves, yet easy to grasp and as light as possible.

In thinking about how to lighten this well-braced stool, the whimsical curved shape came about.

I used a variety of colorful woods in the letter holder below. The weight of the acrylic rods holds them together. Incoming and outgoing mail is placed between the rods. Roll your mouse over the image to see the carved letter opener which matches the stripes of the holder. Beneath and extending beyond the end you can't see is a dispenser for a roll of postage stamps.

How do you surprise your sweetheart with a woodworking project when you live in the same house?

Make something small!

I made these earrings for Susandra for Christmas. Carved from a single lacewood block, they are mirror images of each other.
